We were sitting around the dinner table the other night — just a regular night — and somehow the conversation turned to Marea. I don’t even remember who brought it up, but before I knew it, the kids were asking questions about the business. Who does what, how it works, what it might look like someday.
I told them something I’ve been thinking about quietly for a while:
“You can do whatever you want in life — college, travel, something of your own… but if you ever want to be part of this, it’ll be here.”
That’s a huge part of why I’m building Marea the way I am. Not to hand it to them. But to give them options.
A moment I’ll never forget
Last summer in Martha’s Vineyard, we walked into a family favorite, Vineyard Vines, and were helped by the nicest college-aged boy — he was so kind, polite, and helpful, and made it a point to connect with our family. One of those people you remember.
Later, we found out he was the son of one of the founders. My son Brian, “Little B”, was soo inspired and it was really cool to see.
It was a small, sweet moment — but it stuck with both of us. There was something really powerful about seeing that. This young man, clearly proud to be part of something his family built. A brand I’ve worked with on the influencer side, one so many friends and colleagues have passed through, and at the end of the day… it’s still a family business.
